Hi P., which Patch you have applied at McAfee 8.5??

Maybe that is reason for this error or you're infected with some Malware and it was disable your AntiVirus.

i've recently had this problem of my 8.7 not updating and may be due to not having the patches installed as lots of bugs are fixed and updater agents updated. check to see if you have all the patches installed by going to about VSE and looking at number of installed patches.

Its happens... and when you have patches installed it will work. To work around the way try installing the DAT files or in a simpler manner say offline update. Try this site to download http://www.mcafee.com/apps/downloads/security_updates/dat.asp
then click "I agree" and then you will find the 5999xdat.exe of 66mb download that. if they update the dat file the check for the latest version. cause 5999xdat.exe is the dat version of 31st May, 2010
