Author Topic: External disk not working properly (roco toshiba 60GB)  (Read 3649 times)

again its been while Smiley since my very last post

i have a problem here with my external hard (roco toshiba 60GB)
it worked fine last time but after my friend borrowed it for a bit
it seems i cant see my external hd showing up on My Computer
i cant blame my friend for now  Undecided

so here's my details:
=my os is vista home premium (32 bit)
=when i plug it in my usb port i hear a ding sound (which is normal when i plug in usb device)
=in my computer it didnt show up there
=i added some screenshots for more info
=some of solutions i found on the net they mentioned about assigning drive letters
=well i tried that but the problem is i cant do that because of the initialize problem(refer on the screenshots)
=did i do something wrong here?
=if possible i dont want to format the external hd because there are files there that i really nid it

For the start here is one older Topic with "similar" problem: http://scforum.info/index.php/topic,3399.0.html you'll find few useful suggestions...

Another tip is to try to access that disk (and save data) on some other PC (even better if it run Linux Wink ), final suggestion is to try with Hiren Boot CD tools:

Mini XP
Volkov Commander
Total Commander
...

i forgot to mention this is a portable external hard disk

i have a question here how do i use this programs you posted there

Hello,
If disk won't work and it does not see in the own computer, you have to go to the disk management in which it can be seen as the unlabelled and without drive letter, then U must give it name and path.This you can do with mouse rigth button.
Then you can see it with name where you just give it.(Drive letter!) if it is formated disk that work always even me! Grin Thanx Karma Up

Well, usually after initialize disk you need also to format that disk. Try first connect that HDD to another computer with windows xp and see what is happens.

helo there soryy for a looong reply... Embarrassed

well sad thing is next time i use that external hdd.. it literally died on me.. it is not responding anymore.. it made some wierd noises... and the led is not lighting anymore.. well the only thing i did was make a replacement.. Sad

sigh.. Embarrassed well anyways thanks for the reply..
