Hi Volks and Welcome to SCF Community.

Latest Patch for version 8.5 is No8, but this version isn't supported anymore, here you have detailed explanation and recommendation: http://scforum.info/index.php/topic,1697.msg15658.html#msg15658

Thanks S. Have tried all the freebies in the past and keep going back to McAfee as it does a better job.
The reason for my qyestion in the first place is that I have noticed as of late that the Mcshield process sometimes hogs over 200,000 k of memory. If I terminate the process and the start it again it drops back down to the normal 70,000 K. I was wondering if patch 8 would resolve that issue. I can't yet confirm it, but it seems to tie in when I downloaded Firefox a little while ago, since I finally gave up on IE6.

It would appear that Firefox is not the cause for the periodic spike in the Mcshield process.
It would also appear that patch 8 is no longer available, so I'll just have to live with patch 1 :-)
Thanks for the fast replies.

That's a problem with how 8.5i handles the engine, that's corrected form 8.7i and on, but I personally recommend 8.8i, as it also reduces CPU usage

I'm afraid that you'll need to change this version after 31-Dec-11. ... after that date it'll stop to receive Updates...  Undecided

Oh that's bad news. I received this copy from my former employer's IT department, and the ownership has since changed. Any idea where I can get my hands on a legit copy of 8.8i ?

Really don't know pal...  Undecided

It's against SCF's TOU and Board Rules to provide any illegal content: http://scforum.info/terms.html

I never said illegal, I said legit.
Regardless, I did manage to get McAfee 8.8 from my former company.
Wow, what adifference from 8.5. Certainly not a resource hog anymore.

Now if you run a full scan, the scanning caché will be persistent in time and shared by OAS and ODS, so it will perform even better Wink
