I find this site superb for firewall checking if your firewall is intact you should see green squares all the way down stealth is the word

click proceed enter https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

chose all the port tabs to check your security. Windows stand alone firewall is all im using in Vista home edition and mine is stealth all through.
