[SOLVED] Free PDF Editor for Windows
« on: 04. January 2014., 19:35:17 »
Also something I'm seeking for quite some time for now... A free, locally installed, good Windows PDF Editor.

Well, skip the "good". I'd be happy with an editor to begin with. NOT to create and edit new pdf documents, but to edit existing PDF documents... Pain in the ass, I did not manage it yet.

(As you might know, usually Giovanni's lists go on and on and on... Not this time! It truly is hard to find one and I was curious what he would have to offer.)

"If you want to use a real FREE PDF editor, try this FREE GEM:

http://www.pdfeditorfreeware.net

Full Tutorial:
http://www.pdfcool.com/help/Edit.html

Or just convert your PDF into WORD using this magic FREE tool:

http://www.nemopdf.com/guide/pdf-to-word.html

Enjoy!

Giovanni" http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/win-pdf-editor-2-0-4/#comment-380797

So very happy I went on to his mentioned sites - but nothing! I do not want an online tool, nor do I want to convert. I want to EDIT. LOCALLY. GRMBL. Why is this so hard?? :(

Maximus (http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/win-pdf-editor-2-0-4/#comment-380863) leads us to http://www.pdfill.com/freewriter.html - looks promissing.

But after looking at the details, again, they do not seem to be PDF Editors (without limitations). Many options are possible, but I just want to edit a PDF form companies send once in a while... Fill in my name and save it, just like a regular doc. Without printing and scanning again :(

Somebody who can help me? For I, again, have to give up :(

Check this App - "AbleWord": http://www.ableword.net

Quote
"One of the best features of AbleWord is the ability to load PDF's and edit them as easily as any other documents.

Simply open the pdf file you want to edit and you’re set! Ableword will open this pdf ready for editing, When you’re done, simply save in whatever format you wish – Word, pdf or any of the other supported file types."

A few more solutions:

- "PDFedit": http://pdfedit.cz

- "OpenOffice": http://www.openoffice.org with appropriate PDF extension: http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/pdfimport

I hope, some of these will resolve your problem? ;)

I got some follow up comments...

(thank you, Giveaway of the day community!)

I collected the following information...

1. (advanced users only!) Microsoft® Windows® 2000/Windows XP. Intel® Pentium® III- of 4-processor? http://www.xyclopsoft.com/blog/2013/01/07/get-free-adobe-cs2/ . Do read "*"!
2. http://www.nitroreader.com/en/download . Again, mixed signals.
I almost decided not to download or test. This is what I first saw: PDF pro - Scan, edit, convert, OCR, and secure your documents like the big dogs (...) with a minor price tag.
But: Nitro Reader offers type text anywhere. With the Type Text tool, you can easily add text directly onto the pages a document. Nitro Reader allows you to easily expand upon or add to a particular portion of text, in whatever font, size, and color you specify.
After testing, I can confirm it does what I asked for: I can type text and save it. But I cannot re-edit existing text. It's just graphics. Kinda makes sense. Might go on my software list... http://scforum.info/index.php/topic,8202.0.html .
3. http://www.tracker-software.com/product/pdf-xchange-viewer . After spending way to long on their site, I decided not to download. Information on their sites, combined with the cyclic linking in their pages, contradicts each other. If you want, test and let us know. These links will get you started: http://www.tracker-software.com/pdf-xchange-products-comparison-chart and the download here (look at the fine print under each software title) http://www.tracker-software.com/product/downloads .

* I was lucky to have an account with Adobe. I do not know if new accounts will get this serial too? I'll test in the future... Or reply if you know.

I installed it on Windows 8.1 x64 just fine, to my big surprise :) I did get a warning 20225 in the end: unable to create Adobe PDF Port_Printer.
Also I found, from setup, the following details:
"Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional supports the following programs with PDFMaker: Version 2000, 2002, 2003 of Microsoft Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook Visio Access and Project. Version 2002, 2004, 2005 of AutoCAD, Internet Explorer 6, Publisher 2002, 2003."
It's a beast of a program. Fully packed with all the options: even text recognition (English) and editing was working! Did take some menu options, but it's there. Same for picture manipulation... I did not even ask for that :) Problems I encountered. It did not install a start menu group. So right-click a pdf to open it with Acrobat. Also, Adobe product are THE target for virus makers. So make sure, BEFORE INSTALLING, to have anvir taskmanager installed. It will monitor the setup process and warn you for everything that happens and what is added to Windows's automatic startups, so you can disable it easily. Especially toolbars and the lot should be disabled (don't use Internet Explorer anyways - go Chrome). Such a popular old product should only be openend on PDFs you trust and nothing should be running or enable by default. Except for the auto update tool... :)
For myself, this will be my new default pdf edit tool. For my friends I'll install Nitroreader. And note to future self: see which languages are supported for OCR and  how to install!

I immediately got very happy from the Ablesoft homepage. Finally, no bullshit! :>

Download here: http://www.ableword.net/downloads.html

Even PDFEdit themselves warn this program is not too stable. Insalled, only as a backup-solution, just in case I forget it. For now, not recommended ;p http://pdfedit.cz/en/pdfedit_windows.html .

I can consider this quest too, solved!

To really share about the best PDFelement Tool for Windows is pretty hard because there are many PDF editor software on the internet not even including online PDF editor too. There every PDF editor has its advantage and disadvantage.

You have to choose the right software based on your needs and requirement especially the tools you need, or your system requirement too. So in this case, you can try to based on some important tips before choosing the best offline free PDF editor!

If you often work with PDF files, you may need to quickly edit a PDF document, for example to correct a small error or add a new section. This usually requires suitable PDF editing software. Fortunately, I made a small selection of the best PDF editor for windows. Check it out!

These are some of the best free PDF editors there are in the market.
1. Smallpdf.
2. PDF-XChange Editor.
3. PDFescape.
4. Sejda.
5. PDFSam Basic.

I have used all of these and liked SmallPDF the most. It is handy and can be loaded from the cloud.
The only reassurance you need is whether they keep your data safe or not.
I believe they do.
