What is the difference between spyware, adware, malware?

Spyware is a type of malware that is installed on computers and collects information about users without their knowledge. The presence of spyware is typically hidden from the user. Typically, spyware is secretly installed on the user's personal computer. Sometimes, however, spywares such as keyloggers are installed by the owner of a shared, corporate, or public computer on purpose in order to secretly monitor other users. Adware or advertising-supported software is any software package which automatically plays, displays, or downloads advertisements to a computer after the software is installed on it or while the application is being used. Some types of adware are also spyware and can be classified as privacy-invasive software. More: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adware (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adware)

Malware
, short for malicious software, is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent. The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code.[1] The term "computer virus" is sometimes used as a catch-all phrase to include all types of malware, including true viruses. Hope these info. will help you?

Where do Rootkits fall then?  These are some of the worst.

A rootkit is a software program or coordinated set of programs system whose purpose is to gain control over a computer system. In effectively all cases, this is a hostile act, though not necessarily hostile to any specific computer system, organization, or person. The attack may be purely adventitious, made against computers reached, for instance through the Internet, which have a vulnerability (a "hole" or "backdoor") to the attack technique being used... more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rootkit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rootkit)

Yes, those Rootkits are extremely hard to remove. Even regular MalWare is hard to clean completely from a system.

I think Image Backups can provide one of the best ways to clean MalWare, especially for the RootKits.

Image backups are of the entire Hard Drive as it stands, and can be easily restored (boot and all) over existing drive.

So a rollback to before the MalWare (Rootkit) will preclude the problem.

Dear, Great question you have shared here. The last week i have just completed a short essay about this kinds of software's with the help of fast and best term paper writing service. The spyware=SPY + sortWARE, it's a kind of software that hacks your computer with unknown recognition by SILENT act. The Malware=MALicious + softWARE, Kinda obvious when downloading a file directly from a site (mostly comes from hacked site) that was con jointed from the other computer somewhere. Adware= ADvertisement + softWARE, Most obvious because of popping up boxes which is not really important to pop-up and it contains virus usually.
Have a good day..

I have learned great info from the replies in this thread. Now I understand more about the difference of these three. I was quite confused before too. I would love to know if there's a program that offers the tasks of these 2 programs, so we will not have to download each of them.

Adware - A program that generates pop-ups on your computer or displays advertisements. It is important to note that not all adware programs are necessarily considered malware. There are many legitimate programs that are given for free that display ads in their programs in order to generate revenue. As long as this information is provided up front then they are generally not considered malware.

Backdoor - A program that allows a remote user to execute commands and tasks on your computer without your permission. These types of programs are typically used to launch attacks on other computers, distribute copyrighted software or media, or hack other computers.

Dialler - A program that typically dials a premium rate number that has per minute charges over and above the typical call charge. These calls are with the intent of gaining access to pornographic material.

Hijackers - A program that attempts to hijack certain Internet functions like redirecting your start page to the hijacker's own start page, redirecting search queries to a undesired search engine, or replace search results from popular search engines with their own information.

Spyware - A program that monitors your activity or information on your computer and sends that information to a remote computer without your knowledge.

Trojan - A program that has been designed to appear innocent but has been intentionally designed to cause some malicious activity or to provide a backdoor to your system.

Virus - A program that when run, has the ability to self-replicate by infecting other programs and files on your computer. These programs can have many effects ranging from wiping your hard drive, displaying a joke in a small box, or doing nothing at all except to replicate itself. These types of infections tend to be localized to your computer and not have the ability to spread to another computer on their own. The word virus has incorrectly become a general term that encompasses trojans, worms, and viruses.

Worm - A program that when run, has the ability to spread to other computers on its own using either mass-mailing techniques to email addresses found on your computer or by using the Internet to infect a remote computer using known security holes.

Mlaware, I think all malicious programs, software, processes or even files, codes and other threats which are classified to be malicious, all of them can be categorized as malware.

Thanks for the clarification, I was just looking for this for my new college essay and this information will be key in my essay. It is not difficult for me to do it as much as biology, in which I don’t understand anything and cannot remember at all. Not once did I order a biology essay so that I would have no problems in college ...

Spyware is software tracking you and your activity, spying on you.

It might not necessarily be malicious (even though not always legal). It might be intended to track a pattern of your surfing habits, for marketing purposes.

Malware is malicious software, so its purposes are always malicious.
Adware is a form of Malware that usually comes prepackaged with software that is downloaded. It will mainly cause a lot of unwanted pop-ups and unclosable windows to appear on your computer. These pop-ups often have links that will direct to harmful sites, and scams.

The main difference between malware adware and spyware is that the malware is a software program that is designed to damage a computer, server or a computer network while the adware and spyware are two types of malware. Adware provides revenue to the developer by generating online advertisement on the user’s interface. Spyware tracks the activities and gathers information about the user without his consent.
