@S

Great Thread - The XP32 Version Is Still DownLoadable.

Since APRIL 8 2014, M$ Has Hidden Lots Of Ancient XP Downloads - Only Developers ( ? ) Have Access To Them Now, But Normal Users Do Not.

It Would Be Nice, To Have A Menu Showing All The Threads Like This One ( Listing Download Links To M$ Legacy Software ) That Already Exist Here In SCF.

Thank You.

2) Ir a Inicio > Ejecutar > %windir%\ie8.log

    3.625: IECUSTOM: Unwriteable key HKCR\.application
    3.625: IECUSTOM: Unwriteable key HKCR\.ps

3) Ir a Inicio > Ejecutar > regedit

Thanks Kayjho.

The trouble installing

Well, I saw that something was not going to go very well with the install, but anyway I wanted to try.
I got the file from the link above, I gave it to install and it did not work. Solution:

1) Reset the PC.
2) Go to Start> Run>% windir% \ ie8.log

There is going to open a text file with the log (which has to be something like a record) of what problems there were. We must find the lines that say "IECUSTOM" on the right is going to appear as a message that could not be written. For example, in my case was:

3625: IECUSTOM: unwriteable key HKCR \. Application
3625: IECUSTOM: unwriteable key HKCR \. Ps

3) Go to Start> Run> regedit

Enter the registry editor. There, inside the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT folder there, just at the beginning, several folders that begin with a dot (.). We have to find the brand that we could not write (in my case. And application. Ps). Once the locations, click on the folder and go to the Edit menu> Permissions and enabled "Full Control" and "Read." Look also for not having anything in "Denied". We do this with each of the entries we've had the problems.

samker,

is there an IE8 version for windows 2000 pro :)

Don't think so, at least we don't have... (maybe to try XP version, you don't lose anything...)

I have some doubts about Opera results?

Anyway this is good "point":

Quote
Microsoft: "the fastest version of IE that we have ever released."

Well, maybe true that IE8 is more faster than IE7.

 :D

Sorry to disappoint you guys! But here is the latest javascript benchmark test.

"New IE8 still the slowest browser" (ComputerWorld)

"Google Inc.'s Chrome led all browsers in the SunSpider tests, making it more than four times faster than IE8. Coming in second was Mozilla Corp.'s Firefox 3.0.7, followed by Apple Inc.'s Safari 3.2.2 for Windows and Opera Software's Opera 9.63."

Microsoft: "the fastest version of IE that we have ever released."

Well, maybe true that IE8 is more faster than IE7.   ;D

Upon installation I can say that the final version is a lot more stable than the Release Candidate that was released a few months ago. No noticeable changes as of yet, as this release focuses on the core features and functionality of Internet Explorer 8.

Unfortunately there is no version for Windows 7 being released today. Moments ago Dean Hachamovitch, general manager of Internet Explorer, just announced the availability of the final version at the MIX 09 Day 2 keynote session.

Update: Microsoft releases statement regarding IE8 for Windows 7 users:

"We're sorry, but you won't be able to download Internet Explorer 8 for Windows 7 Beta at this timeWindows 7 Beta already includes a pre-release candidate version of Internet Explorer 8 that is optimized for that release. Windows 7 enables unique features and functionality in Internet Explorer 8 including Windows Touch and Jump Lists which require additional product tests to ensure we are providing the best Windows experience for our customers. We will continue to update the version of Internet Explorer 8 running on Windows 7 as the development cycles of Windows 7 progress and plan to include the final version of Internet Explorer 8 in the release candidate version of Windows 7 later this year. "
