2. virii! While I was protected by Avast (Windows/Android) all the way and I should have been clean, I'm now almost certain I wasn't. What I did was "just" installing different antivirus programs to let them scan and then I'd install the next, and the next, and, ... These were my initial choices:
Dr. Web v7 Light first, then McAfee (trial), Kaspersky, AVG Free, Creative Apps' Antivirus Free, AVL Pro App, Norton Mobile, 360 Mobile Security, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and just to be sure I finished with Avira Free - which came tested very good. See Perfect Scoring Android Antivirus Programs here: http://scforum.info/index.php/topic,8519.msg21947.html#msg21947 .
I only found this list after all my scanning had been done.
All problems were solved after all these scans (except 2 more certificate errors). Problems remaining was: see 3 :)

...

For now, I consider my problems solved, largely by just running many antivirus apps! Lesson learned; no one antivirus solution on android is "perfect". They are only lucky on certain test sets...

S4 is having some trouble from what I heard :p
...
I flashed CM10.2 on one of my friend's S3 and many of the problem he was having with the stock rom dissapeared :p

That's why I wait for Galaxy vi ;p

Maybe it's time to give them a new look one of these years, but for now I seem to be happy (and I'm left wondering... Which problems did your friend get in return, without noticing them as bugs...)

Karma :)

Uhm.. I dunno, I'm using CM10.1 on my Ace and It's far superior to Samsung's stock. even Official CM7.2 beated stock rom.

Had you ever tried CM on it? :p
Or AOSP?

Ooooh yes, don't you worry. Of course I did. It would be far superior and cooler and all that. I searched and found many custom roms from different 'people' or entities... High user ratings, special attention to details and performance, ... You name it!

In reality, I ended up with horrible wifi connections and other even more horrible sheit. Noooo good. It's then that I decided that only Samsung could make Samsung phone ROMs ;p

No more - ever! Or at least, till I have the Galaxy vi ; -)

Stock samsung Kenel is always very bad lol.
I read somewhere in XDA Developers that the S3 has a bug in which the CPU would lower its freq and cause trouble.. I don't remember much about the issue

I must say... A few hours into the december 4.3 build... I think I FINALLY have a phone without apparent bugs!  All runs smooth. Locked, unlocked, plenty of free RAM, all programs start, no reboots yet, no maximum amount of installed apps, ...

This is sad, but I'm happy for now :)

Karma!

5 & 6 are kernel-related problems :p
The struttering is due to low CPU freq sometimes

Oooh, that could be a VERY good explanation for the stuttering... Low CPU frequency! I'll (try to) check this out further.

Thanx!

PS: I agree with 5 & 6 ; )

Do as you preach... Feedback!

:)

Ok, as you might remember, I had a lot of problems with my phone...

1. certificate error... After setting an option back on my wifi router, I got two more errors and disconnects. Both not followed by successive disconnects. So far so good! I'll change options once more to get to the bottom of this, because... See 2. :)

2. virii! While I was protected by Avast (Windows/Android) all the way and I should have been clean, I'm now almost certain I wasn't. What I did was "just" installing different antivirus programs to let them scan and then I'd install the next, and the next, and, ... These were my initial choices:

3. lock screen is very sluggish. This problem became less but remained a problem. I could improve it a little more by removing NotifierPro from Security - Notification Access... though.
And as far as I could tell I had this problem even before all warez-troubles I caused, so I blamed it on nasty stock rom (I9300XXUGMJ9_I9300VFGGMJ5_I9300BUUGMJ3_HOME.tar.md5)*. After a week or so I decided today to re-Odin this firmware once more. Luckily, this rom keeps all apps and home screens intact. Now, the lockscreen lag has become even less. BUT I (sometimes) still have stuttering voices when AutomateIT Pro (4.0.72) needs to tell me something. Voices continues normally as soon as I the screen is unlocked. I can live with that :)

4. random crash & reboots went back to "normal" - must be firmware problem. Sometimes the Samsung logo will stutter too - it's a nasty bug, hidden deep within ;p

5. non-responding phone / black screen. Only unplugging the battery (and waiting 30 seconds!) would solve this. Problem largely solved. They computers in the end ; -)

6. crash & burn. Sometimes 5. above would be combined with a massive battery drain. Say 10s of procents in half an hour! That seems to have been solved - I did not see this appear anymore.

I now made another Nandroid backup and am going to try this firmware: I9300XXUGMK6_I9300OXAGMK6_OXA.zip (FROM: http://android.sc/update-galaxy-s3-i9300-to-official-android-4-3-xxugmk6-jelly-bean-firmware/). Hopefully the (still not officially confirmed) i9300 roll-out bugs are then finally solved :)

For now, I consider my problems solved, largely by just running many antivirus apps! Lesson learned; no one antivirus solution on android is "perfect". They are only lucky on certain test sets...

I'll update about the certificate error once more - say in a week?

:)

* How to root Samsung Galaxy siii s3 i9300 international with 4.3 (stock) firmware? I only found one working solution: flashing with Odin! I used CF-Auto-Root-m0-m0xx-gti9300.zip (SOURCE: http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/galaxys3-i9300-root-android43-jellybean-update-howto-521949). This rooting worked on both my 4.3 firmwares... [/s] These rooting instructions actually make your phone unstable! Updated instructions: http://scforum.info/index.php/topic,8536.msg21990.html#msg21990

Sounds like a faulty stock rom... Samsung did it again.
Maybe you'll want to look at CyanogenMod official releases

I still haven't solved this problem.

The timing has changed. So at first I thought it was a router/dhcp problem (lease on 30 mins). But I always used those settings. Coíncidently I was also changing options on my wifi. I changed them back (channel, auto, stuff like that), but it did not change anything (nor should it).

The first certificate warning takes a while to appear. Then they slowly become more and more frequent until upto a point where I MUST connect to unprotected wifi.

Chrome on windows learned me that virii can cause strange behaviour like this.

I also have a lot of problems with the unlock screen. Often it will just not react anymore. Only a black display (and maybe a blinking led). Also my AutomateIt voices were often stuttering like the phone was under very high CPU/RAM load. I did not have these problems from the beginning but combined with the fact that the phone sometimes just reboots or needs a battery eject... Starts to sound a lot like the infamous Samsung 4.3 roll-out:
- http://www.gottabemobile.com/2013/11/12/samsung-galaxy-s3-android-4-3-update-problems-emerge/

And yes, at times I also experience an EXCESSIVE battery drain. Usually I notice tthe emptied battery problem being followed by a non-responding lock screen (or reboot; or virtually non-responding).

And lastly, pressing home when (just) being locked could also be a cause instead of a symptom... :S

So things to do:
1. router reset (did not do that yet - only android has problems and my mini-mining-rigg cannot be disconnected. Maybe in 10 years or so ; -)
2. check for virii. I am currently installing al major (and unmajor) antivirus programs. I got some warnings, one or two that I could not easily explain. Of course I just removed anything I wasn't sure of. Still, the unlock problem remains - and I even unplugged the battery once more :(
3. new firmware. Starting the beginning of December (on Real Santa Claus Day to be exact;) Samsung has started rolling out new firmwares again (after being discontinued for a month).
BEFORE I do the new firmware, I FIRST will test by restore current system ROM. I expect it not to wipe my apps and icons (but that's a gamble I still do not fully understand;p).

So not over, not by a long shot :)

No karma

Devvie

PS: also hinting on virus infection is the fact that I was checking and installing the November 2013 torrents for rebuilding my phone.
PS: I shortly also suspected my ADB tools (wifi && lock protector). But I used those programs almost from the beginning...
PS: Avast was installed al the way through; including Lost & Found :) I removed that too, but it did not change much. Also, on PC downloading torrents, Avast was active. And Zemana AntiLogger.
