Dear SCF members,
here is a little trick how to keep getting the free Windows XP updates that enterprises and governments are having to pay for: http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/apr/07/uk-government-microsoft-windows-xp-public-sector
POSReady 2009 is based on the Windows XP kernel and get updates until 2019, so the solution is "simple". All that's needed for 32-bit Windows XP installs is to edit the registry so that it tells Microsoft you're using POSReady 2009. ;)
1. Simply, create a text file with this content:
Source code
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\PosReady]
"Installed"=dword:00000001
2. Save as .reg file and doubleclick to import it.
Enjoy! :bih:

P.S.
Additional information:
- This is based on Windows XP Service Pack 3
- POSReady2009 Updates will now install on a normal XP and Windows Updates shows also the updates for POSReady2009
- Instead PosReady you can also use WEPOS or WES
- A reboot is not required
- Use it you own risk! These updates are not tested on a regular XP system and could damage your system: http://scforum.info/terms.html

I know that you (now) hate XP ;D but at the moment it's still used on about 1/4 of all World PCs.
@ XP users
I tested this Trick and it work perfectly. You can download prepared "Registry file" from here: http://www.ghacks.net/download/103309/
Simply, Turn-On Windows "Automatic Updates", choose option "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them".
When you get notification about new updates, simply reject (only) those related to POSReady (WEPOS or WES). ;)

Everyone who use this trick schould know, that this will not fix all security risks because POSReady2009 is only a Light-XP which contains not all features of XP. So not all issues can be fixed.

As a Dutchie... I'm a firm believer in (in)voluntary euthanasia... ;p At least, when it comes to Operating Systems :)
