Re: What is The Maximum of Apps on iOS 6?
 at least I'm not alone! I am NOT crazy for wanting 2500 apps!

FROM: http://iphone.pandaapp.com/news/07222012/231352812.shtml#.Uc3PrGthiSM

See their page for poll...

Copy Paste:
"A small snafu present in the current developer edition of iOS 6 restricts the total number of apps users can install on their iDevices.

The number is insanely high. Users with 500 apps installed will begin to noticeably slow down, and engage in auto-reboots, while those who have as many as 1,000 apps will find their device not booting at all. Apparently the high threshold was of little concern to Apple, especially when considering how many people actually have between 500 and 1,000 apps installed.

However, the Mid Atlantic Consulting (MAC) made the point that if Apple expects devices like the iPhone to replace gaming consoles, televisions, and other devices iOS should allow users to install an unlimited number of apps. MAC cited the late Steve Jobs’ claim that only limit on the number of apps was the number of folders and apps per folder. Apple has already reportedly agreed to provide a fix for the App restriction in the next version of iOS 6.

New reports have surfaced that there might not in fact be a virtual limit on the number of apps users can install on their devices, and that the report itself may have been an isolated incident. MAC claims they confirmed the test on four difference iDevices including both the iPad and iPhone. The theoretical maximum for the number of installed apps on a single device spans 11 home pages, with 2,160 apps. However, users can install more applications and launch them from the devices search function, meaning a potentially unlimited number of apps can be installed granted the space is available.

But, according to the vote hold by the Mid Atlantic Consulting, apparently there are some people have more than 1,000 apps on their iDevice on current firmware."

Last month I upgraded my Samsung Galaxy Siii S3 i9300 from 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 and I went along installing apps again.

I can now confirm, Samsung has read my posts and solved it. Apparently it was a bug with 4.2.1.
I currently am approaching 1000 installed apps again, and I only am getting started ;p No more programs crash when they have to display the list of installed apps.

4.2.2 for i9300 still is beta preview, and it does have some problems (not remembering settings, backgrounds, startup items) so think twice before upgrading.

I consider my original question: what is the maximum amount of android apps one can install as [SOLVED]

Originally, I also had problems with the total amount of live backgrounds one can install on Android / Samsung Galaxy Siii S3 i9300...

Now I upgraded to 4.2.2, I checked again. This time I could install up to 102 live backgrounds before displaying the list of backgrounds would crash (with number 103).

I do have to admit while this worked just fine, when I replaced 1 live background with another 1 live background (so still 102 total), the list would crash. I solved that by removing 1 live backround, bringing the grand total to 101 installed live backgrounds.

Currently, the list keeps crashing - even with "just" 100 installed. I guess this is a beta problem with 4.2.2 for Galaxy S3... For now, I'm ignoring that and I'll stick to the following answer for my question "how many live background can you install" [SOLUTION] is 102, and I consider this case solved :P

I downloaded the newest version of Rom Toolbox Pro 6.0.3.

This version does not crash any more when requesting an overview of all installed apps. I think Jimmy finally got around to install this many apps after all... He was with Samker on this one, declaring me 'fucked up' ;p

Anyways, this program says the maximum amount of apps I can install is 954. I will keep an eye on these numbers...

PS: RT Pro still crashes when I start the startup manager... Guess I'm still overboard there? +1 karma for me! ;p

Well, leaving that aside...
From OS point of view, there shouldn't be a limit (as "install an app" is just putting the apk where it should be,plus depacking libs and creating data dir), so I actually suspect of bad practices in the apps themselves. Can you list your installed apps via Android Commander on your PC?

I can now answer this question, after upgrading my Samsung Galaxy S3 to 4.3.

Now all *looks* fixed, but..

This is what happens now. After installing application 721, application 722 will remove, without warning, another application to make room.

The number 721 is the number MyAppList shows... (My App List: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.projectsexception.myapplist) and seems to be in par with my previous experiences.

Surely another program might show a slightly different number: not all apps are counted equal.

So yeah... Big disappointment... Apple devices actually can install more apps than Android can!!! :( But you hear nobody about this...

Imagine you not noticing this behaviour and all of a sudden your Google Authenticator app is removed... How to get back in them secured websites?? You better have the security keys stored somewhere safe... (answer: no, not yet)

Stupid Android. Stupid Samsung.

Spread the word - repost! :)
