You know as I read this log for helping someone recover passwords, it makes me think of how easy it would be to steal a laptop, and even if it has a password on all the user accounts, this makes it worthless to even have a password, because of all the nice things out there for removing or making new passwords.  Just a thought, also if you are using XP or greater, if at the log on screen and you have the little pictures to let you log on, to be able to log on using the administrator account, hit cntl-alt-del this will take you to the user name and password screen.  Well all these things they speak of work and are great for breaking into an account with a lost password, or in the latest Harin's you can just create a new admin user.

I have this tool "Austrumi".... really does the job!

reset your username/Admin password using this tool with ease,

Austrumi is a Linux bootable ISO image for recovering NT passwords and other cool tools and methods, sized for Business Card size CD media (50Mb). It allows you to change any password, including that of the Administrator, on a partition occupied by Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Simply boot the CD and when you get to the initial boot prompt, type:

boot: nt_pass

This will launch a console utility that will detect Windows partitions on the hard disk and provide you with a menu to modify any user or Administrator passwords on the Windows system. It will even give access to the Windows registry for recovery purposes. Quite a handy utility to keep in your wallet (AUSTRUMI is small enough to fit on a business card-size CD) if you are unfortunate enough to having to deal with Windows machines in your line of work.

I used to use Austrumi, really good tool, but you can just load any linux live CD and delete the sam file in C:\windows\system32\config\

You can download the Hiren's Boot disk

Agree, I use Hiren's BootCD very regularly - a big fan.

1# Go to SafetyMode,,, or what's the name? (I can explain, if you don't know how to to so)
2# When done with that, logon to Administrator Account...
3# Go to Control-panel, Choose "Users"
4# Choose the user you want to remove password!
5# Click remove password!
6# restart in normal way
7# LOGIN

You can do that or type in CMD this; control userpasswords2
then browse your account and reset your password.
