I know these days this is getting ancient, but it still could come in handy for someone who is looking for a basic starting place with PAL and NTSC, as well as DVD and video hierarchy and layouts, plus a dive into some new programs. Doom9.org is a great resource, and here's a guide I've used countless times, and I hope it can help someone else just as much.
