Some pop-ups are based on Internet Explorer's add-ons.
Disable all possible addons or reset IE. Tools > Manage Addons.
I'm not sure but sometimes they do,

Hope your PC gets clean  :-\

Scan type: Quick Scan

Probably a scam but I would suggest doing a full scan as well. Sometimes it turns up some extra stuff.

I think I need new anti virus protection, what do you recommend?

I assume that... please first uninstall Symantec through Control Panel/Add Remove Programs and after that my advice for FREE AntiVirus solution is AVG: http://scforum.info/index.php/topic,108.0.html

ok I am still working on this, some of the software has to be removed by an administrator, I am running vista on my laptop, how would i log on as an admin? I have searched it out and it isnt as simple as it sounds..

thanks..............

Don't know exact reason right now, maybe because of that infection, maybe because you have more accounts on that PCs, maybe that laptops is from your company and your IT guys give you only User access...?? Think about these few solutions?

Anyway try again to remove this things running your PC in Safe Mod (but first turn of System Restore):

Quote

Steps to turn off System Restore

1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. In the System Properties dialog box, click the System Restore tab.
3. Click to select the Turn off System Restore check box. Or, click to select the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box.
4. Click OK.
5. When you receive the following message, click Yes to confirm that you want to turn off System Restore:
You have chosen to turn off System Restore. If you continue, all existing restore points will be deleted, and you will not be able to track or undo changes to your computer.

Do you want to turn off System Restore?
After a few moments, the System Properties dialog box closes.

Quote

To start the computer in safe mode
1.
You should print these instructions before continuing. They will not be available after you shut your computer down in step 2.

2.
Click Start and then click Shut Down.

3.
In the drop-down list of the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart, and then click OK.

4.
As your computer restarts but before Windows launches, press F8.
On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press F8 when the boot menu appears.

5.
Use the arrow keys to highlight the appropriate safe mode option, and then press ENTER.

6.
If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation that you need to access using the arrow keys, and then press ENTER.

Note•
If Windows launches before you can choose a safe mode, restart your computer and try again.

In safe mode, you have access to only basic files and drivers (mouse, monitor, keyboard, mass storage, base video, default system services, and no network connections). You can choose the Safe Mode with Networking option, which loads all of the above files and drivers and the essential services and drivers to start networking, or you can choose the Safe Mode with Command Prompt option, which is exactly the same as safe mode except that a command prompt is started instead of the graphical user interface. You can also choose Last Known Good Configuration, which starts your computer using the registry information that was saved at the last shutdown.

Safe mode helps you diagnose problems. If a symptom does not reappear when you start in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings and minimum device drivers as possible causes. If a newly added device or a changed driver is causing problems, you can use safe mode to remove the device or reverse the change.

There are circumstances where safe mode will not be able to help you, such as when Windows system files that are required to start the system are corrupted or damaged. In this case, the Recovery Console may help you.

NUM LOCK must be off before the arrow keys on the numeric keypad will function.

In any case (no matter did you success with uninstall) after Spybot & AntiVirus Scan provide us new logs.

P.S.

You forgot to provide me information about your AntiVirus protection?

Ok.

Right now this isn't look that bad, we have 5 infected files. ;)

I'm marked a red problematic things in my first (quick) look (without deep analyze).

Now please:

1. Open: Start/Control Panel/Add Remove Programs try to find and uninstall these Programs/Toolbars: Desktop Smiley Toolbar and/or MyWebSearch (Uninstall the program and anything else associated with the suite of Fun Web Products which all bundle the toolbar into their downloads and installations. Entries such as My Way Speedbar or Search Assistant should also be uninstalled. Anything from Smiley Central or other odd entries should be researched and eliminated to keep your computer free of Mywebsearch. If you do not uninstall all components, the toolbar will still be installed on your computer and running in the background whether you see it or not.)

Also take a look is there some program called AV2010 (or something similar) if you find something - uninstall them.

2. Download, Install, Update and Run Full Scan with Spybot Search & Destroy: http://scforum.info/index.php/topic,1688.0.html

3. Update your AntiVirus and also run Full Scan

I'm not sure is your Symantec AntiVirus running Ok?? Did you have any active AntiVirus?

That's all for now. When you finish all this please provide us new logs (both).

Samker

You welcome Colleen, we are here to help our - SCF Members. :bih:

When the scan is complete
, just provide us that two logs (Hijack This & Kaspersky) after that I'll give you new cleaning instruction.

Don't try on your own to remove any HJT items because most of them process are "innocent" and you will probably make more damages to your PC than this crap which you now have. ;)

thankyou I am currently running the virus scan for critical areas, It gave me some options and that looked the most important and its odd, b/c while its still running, apparently it is findng some things that malware didnt? I wish I was more profound at this stuff.  When the scan is complete, I assume I will delete the items found prior to running hijack this?

thanks, I look forward to your help - it is much appreciated
