[TIP] Reinstall OS in 7 minutes
« on: 10. August 2009., 12:11:04 »

Computer users are somehow getting infected by malicious softwares and want to clean them.
The way I used do was formatting and reinstalling the operating system, took me 1.5 hrs.
But now, I use Norton Ghost to clone and restore the fresh install of the operating system, including
softwares I use - it takes me 7 minutes.

Norton Ghost is a software that clones your HDD's partition or the entire HDD data, and restore the
image whenever you need it - especially when you operating system is malfunctioning or infected by
malicious software(s).

Once you have obtained bootable (preferred) Norton Ghost;
 1. Install a fresh copy of your operating system
 2. Install OS updates and necessary softwares
 3. Make a clone of your partition or entire hard drive to an image
 4. Restore the image when the OS is malfunctioning.

Due to various versions available, I could not provide a detailed information and instructions.
Sorry for that, by the way, I use Ghost every month, instead of formatting and installilng and updating...
I recommend getting a copy of Hiren's BootCD - (not allowed to give you the link to download).

I hope you find it useful.
well? understand ma bad English.

Norton Ghost is a good solution for the the backup and restore processes, especially for the OS as you mentioned.
but still, there are other products; PING ( http://ping.windowsdream.com/ ) for instance is a FREE substitute for the Norton ghost, may not be as easy to use ( you will need to read the tutorial provided ), but it will do the job.
there is also "Acronis true image" software, which will not only take an image for your hardware, it is capable of isolating the drivers so that you can restore the image on another machine,, very useful
there still are other softwares, but thats enough for now :)
Thanks for the post  :)

I suggest Comodo Time Machine because free, small and lightning fast than others. You should use.

You have Free for download Comodo "Time Machine": http://www.comodo.com/home/data-storage-encryption/data-recovery.php

Comodo Time Machine (CTM) is a powerful system rollback utility that allows users to quickly restore their computers to an earlier point in time. CTM 'snapshots' are a complete record of your entire system (including the registry, critical operating system files and user created documents)...

Comodo "Time Machine" is very handy. I always use it before update or clean up the computer.

Yeh I use Ghost 2003 on XP systems as metiioned above due to the speed, and use Acronis true Image for Win7 e.t.c due to the different file system structure Ghost 2003 wont work with 7 properly and I wont use the new version of ghost as it wants .net installed which I try to not install if I can help it (various reasons), Acronis is also very good if you have a HDD that's about to fail or has failed as you can clone one drive to another it still has to be detectable by the BIOS mind!, Hiren's CD springs to mind if you dont know where to get hold of the right tools not that we condone piracy here at scf I look at it like a trial : )

All the best
