I had the same problem today, but did not manage to solve it :(

Update in question: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=7217 (Windows XP Language Interface Pack) - Microsoft Windows XP Language Interface Pack (LIP) is a high-quality, localized "skin" for emerging or minority language markets, such as Catalan, Lithuanian, and Thai - it is not available in English. Based on MUI technology, LIP provides the desktop user with an approximately 80% localized user experience by translating a reduced set of user interface elements. LIP is installed on a licensed copy of Windows and a fixed base language, e.g. English is a fixed base language.

For this specific update, I followed these instructions as a work-around:
FROM: http://www.makeuseof.com/answers/set-language-windowsxp-english-reinstalling/
"ha14, April 6, 2012
try: Windows XP Service Pack 3 MUI Pack Update
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=22108
Install this package to get the Microsoft Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI) Update for Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3). The best way to ensure you get Windows XP Service Pack 3 is by turning on the Automatic Updates feature in Windows XP.

after that
1. Open Control Panel and double click on the Regional and Language Options icon.
2. In the first tab, Regional Options, select English (US), English (UK)," - See more at: http://scforum.info/index.php/topic,8363.msg21315.html#msg21315

Ok,

It seems Microsoft is screwing up big time :(

From different pages, through: https://www.google.nl/search?q=This+version+of+the+Windows+Genuine+Advantage+validation+program+is+no+longer+supported.+Download+the+newest+version

DO:
- do not use Chrome or Firefox - use Internet Explorer (http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/666558d1-1205-4919-be7e-c351a91268af/i-need-newer-version-of-windows-genuine-advantage-geniunecheckexe-for-xp)
AND ALSO DO:
- copy link URL and change the URL as follows:
"When you go to a download page, you arrive at a page like http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14
If you now click on the Continue button on the page, MS currently sends you to the wrong place.
The workaround is to amend the existing URL by inserting 'genuine-validation' instead of 'details' in your download page URL
So for the one above: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14 becomes http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/genuine-validation.aspx?id=14 "

and

"In my case there was a slight variance.  I was seeing "exe-validation" instead of "details".  But changing it to "genuine-validation" sent it to the right place.  "

No dice - I'm on Vista SP2 now...

Roughly translated, this is the error message when running GenuineCheck.exe:

This version of the Windows Genuine Advantage validation program is no longer supported. Download the newest version and make sure your system clock is correct.

Sigh... Shoot to kill,

D., which service pack you have on this lap.?

LOL - smart thinking and I bet you are right. I checked, and it's still at SP0 after the system restore  ; - ) And as long as not ALL updates are installed, the SP will not come...

So will do that with the offline installers for system administrators (startpage.com it).*

No reposts? Problem solved ;p

Karma!!

 I have a Vista laptop that refuses to install kb943899. *

So I wanted to download the update manually from Microsoft. This was not allowed, unless I would pass Windows genuine Advantage.

You get to download the infamous tool so you can copy paste the code to prove I was genuine.

BUT nowadays that tool has become obsolete! So the tool won't run :( So no code to paste, so no update to manually download :(

WTF?  :'(

Anyone? :)

Karma,

Devvie
