Dear S.,
It's OK, no problem :)

Like you, I'm thinking that it's again a dammed BUG in MS Office, but in combination with HP printer driver(s). What confuses me is the fact that I didn't have this issue before with MSOffice2010 and C7280. After attached (not installed) that Network HP printer, the issue appeared!! I'm not IT specialist and I don't know what kind of entries may be applied (Registry?) after attaching a Network printer. HP has the habit to use their "own coding" for Registry Entries and I find it difficult to locate something in XP Pro-SP3 Registry, related to Network printer, if any.
I keep searching for a solution ... if one has been published, of course  :P

Best regards

First of all, sorry for little bit late reply.

hmmm... like you, I'm also little bit confused with this problem... :o right now, I'm almost sure that this is some weird BUG in MS Office but I'm not 100% sure.

I'll think about this problem in the coming days, also hope that some SCF Member(s) will have some ideas or advices...  :bih:

cya later,

Hello S.,
Since almost last month, after that probable virus infection, I confront with some strange issues ... :-\
I wish this long post of mine not to get you tired ... I'm referring to my home printer, a HP Photosmart All-in-One (C7280) with driver and related s/w been downloaded/installed from official HP site.

When I change any of the settings via control panel, Excel or Word is taking into account these modifications made.
If I want to change something via print tab (File/Print/Printer Settings) of a specific document or worksheet, one step before printing, both applications become "crazy" and modify the settings either to default ones (those set via Control Panel) or to their own ones .. randomly!!

Actions carried out ....

I have uninstalled/re-installed HP relative printer s/w, I used the "HP Print and Scan Doctor" (.. you mention in your post) which didn't return any error. I cleaned all relevant to HP printer folders/files from "%temp%" directory one by one by running one given batch file in folder ... utils\ccc\Unistall_L3.bat and then Uninstall_L4.bat". These folders have remained in %temp% from previous installations of HP Printer s/w and CCleaner or Disk CleanUp hadn't removed them. Glary Utils did.
I also cleaned a leftover Registry entry, named "32 Bit HP CIO Componets Installer" via Microsoft Fix It, just to make myself as sure as could be that the next installation will be really fresh!
After all above, HP Printer installation was a fresh one and doesn't show any problems on printing/scanning/copying/faxing and cooperates smoothly with other applications, even with Outlook 2010!!

I have uninstalled/re-installed MS Office 2010 Pro-Plus (english), I installed Greek Language Pack and run/installed all Office updates. I tested Word first ..
I created a new document, wrote a test sentence and tried to print it via Word print tab. Printer Settings there were exactly the same with settings setup in Control Panel. I tried one modification (... from Fast Draft to Fast Normal) and "OK". After that I opened again Printer Settings, to my surprise, Word ignored custom settings and applied/modified to it's own one "Best" (it's different than default from Control Panel, of course). >:D

I searched in Google and found out a forum discussion for this issue http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/officeitproprevious/thread/01569f4f-c231-444f-9c5a-6e80915af42c
but couldn't realize a really working around solution, unfortunately.

To my perception and thinking over what event occurred before the issue appeared, I'm afraid ...
whether another printer (a network printer (OfficeJet 7500 Wide Format) attached/added to my laptop via Corporate Group Policy (in order me to have the ability to print, when I am at a partner's premises) is causing the issue. My home printer has been setup via USB connection and before that event I didn't have this problem. Maybe, that network printer has written settings somewhere and MSOffice is confused .. I don't know, I just want to give you as many details, as I can :)

Thank you again for your concern and patience

Regards

Hi again P.,

this is very strange problem, for the start please describe me exactly what happens when you go to "Printing preferences" (via Control Panel), select new default print settings and confirm them with Ok.
Did you get there some error or something?

Also, here you have "HP Print and Scan Doctor" ;) : http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03286146&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=3204785

I'll wait for news from you...

Samker

P.S.

I hope that other SCF members will have some ideas as-well...

Hello to everybody here,

I have confronted with a strange issue, regarding MSOffice 2010 Pro-Plus behavior towards HP Photosmart C7280 custom settings!
By default this printer has been setup for printing in .. A4, Color, Single sided, Fast Draft. Sometimes it isn't worth to print in color but in B&W.
Word and Excel keep refusing to keep the custom settings for a specific document (A4, Fast Draft, Single sided, B&W, *.docx format) and return to own settings, like (Letter, Best, Single Sided, Color) or the default printer settings! If I choose the option:  Doublex/automatically, the application returns by itself "Flip on Long Edge (Standard)"
I "googled" the issue, but I couldn't find any useful or workable solution across internet.
Temporarily, I have worked around by adding 3 copies of the printer in "Printers & Faxes" Folder with usual printing settings.
Other applications, as Adobe Reader or even Outlook 2010 are behaving as expected, with no problem!!

Does anybody have any idea/opinion or confront with the same problem?
