Should You Beware Omega AntiVir?
« on: 28. October 2009., 08:01:46 »

If you have accidentally found Omega AntiVir on your system, be sure - rogueware creators had already started their attack against you! Don't believe anything that they are trying to convince you about. Neither these hackers, nor their created programs will protect your computer. Therefore, do all your best to avoid this rogue entering your PC and follow this article in order to get acquainted with its basic characteristics.

Omega AntiVir (sometimes called OmegaAntiVir) is the latest rogue software creation provided by the group of people who are also responsible for the development of Windows Protection Suite, Windows Additional Guard, and Windows Guard Pro. When looking at the information about the Omega AntiVir website, the rogue seems to have originated from Los Angeles, US. According to whois.com, the registrant is Gertrude Dickens, located in 3370 Diane Street. However, according to the IP address of the site - 64.86.16.161 - the real birthplace of the malware is in Brampton, Canada. These completely different results show that hackers are doing their best to stay undetected and perform their malicious activities successfully.

However, keep in mind that visiting the website of Omega AntiVir is not the only way how you can infect your PC with this rogue. Omega AntiVir uses various manipulative tactics in order to gain access to your computer. Very often it may infiltrate your system with the help of Trojans and through security vulnerabilities. Therefore, it's very important to browse with caution and not to click on unknown and unreliable links.

So what happens when Omega AntiVir manages to sneak into your PC? Well, you can most probably already imagine - pop-ups, browser hijackings, and bogus system scans. All this is done in order to make you scared and to trick you into purchasing the full version of the rogue.

Have a look at the screenshot that shows you the layout of the malicious program. Prevent it from infecting your system!

Let's now move on to more precise information concerning this rogueware. As is the case with other malware, Omega AntiVir comes with certain files that need to be deleted in order to remove it from an infected system. Therefore have a look at the two distinct files provided below together with their sizes and MD5 signatures:

Quote

File Name              File Size           MD5
OM24c.exe            1958400          8c6d3853fc532b5a9a517205181b46c8

SetupPack[1].exe   1958400          8c6d3853fc532b5a9a517205181b46c8

Don't get trapped because this rogue anti-spyware application won't resolve any security problems on your PC. Omega AntiVir will never provide you with any of the services promised to you. Therefore, I would highly recommend you remove this rogueware immediately after its detection. Yes they detect them but not all, in most cases only "big" ones.

My recommendation for removing this things are:

SUPERAntiSpyware: http://scforum.info/index.php/topic,116.0.html

Malwarebytes: http://scforum.info/index.php/topic,2201.0.html

Microsoft Removal Tool: http://scforum.info/index.php/topic,4510.0.html
