Google's the TOP 1000 most-visited sites on the web
« on: 26. June 2011., 08:32:20 »

Microsoft owns and operates four of the top 10 most visited web sites in the world this year, at least according to the rankings of one of the company's rivals Google. According to Google's own list of the top 1000 web sites  on the planet in 2011 so far (the list from Google's DoubleClick ad division, was last updated in April), Microsoft.com, Bing.com, Live.com and msn.com are in the top 10 meaning that the company owns more of the top web sites in that category than any other organization: http://www.google.com/adplanner/static/top1000/
The highest is Live.com in the number four position with msn.com coming in at number six. The search web site Bing.com is at number nine while Microsoft.com itself is at number 10.

Apparently Google.com doesn't list itself in its own web site traffic list but two sites that the company owns did make the top 10 with its video site YouTube.com at number 2 and its Blogspot.com site coming in at number seven. Even if Google.com listed itself on the traffic list and made the top 10 that would make the company own three of the top 10 web sites compared to Microsoft's four. Earlier this week it was reported that Google.com achieved a whopping 1 billion hits in May.

According to Google, the number one web site in the world with the most traffic is, not surprisingly, the social networking site Facebook which Google says has 880 million unique visitors. Earlier this week it was reported via third party sources that Facebook now has 750 million users. Other web sites on Google's top traffic list include Yahoo.com at number three, Wikipedia.com at number five and the Chinese search web site Baidu.com at number eight.
