These are the best Antiviruses for Linux according to me:

1. Sophos.
2. Comodo.
3. ClamAV.
4. F-PROT.
5. Chkrootkit.
6. Rootkit Hunter.
7. ClamTK.
8. BitDefender.

Yes, every OS needs an Antivirus because if a constructive software can be coded same ways a destructive software can be coded for any OS be it Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Andriod, Symbian etc.

Kaspersky is good antivirus but you can also try bitdefender antivirus 2011, to get rid of any type of antivirus software it is the best to deal with virus problems !!

Personally I use Kaspersky Anti-Virus since 3 month on a Ubuntu Server and I find it very good.
