Title: The Best Security Suite ?!
Post by: blodflekk on 29. August 2009., 15:49:09
There are many security suites available today that provide a great number of services, Even system tune ups. Which Suite proves to be the best protection? the easiest to use? Do you guys recommend a suite that provides Firewall, Anti-Virus and Anti-spyware all in one? Or separate programs specific to their task?

Personally I don't use (love) any IS.  >:D

For protection I use:

AntiVirus: McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i

FireWall:
McAfee Desktop Firewall 8.5

AntiSpyware: MalWarebyte's AntiMalware, SUPERAntispyware, Spybot S&D, Windows Defender (I use them only for scanning time-to-time, not for Real-Time protection  ;) ).

I was vote for Kaspersky IS, but why you don't provide also McAfee and Norton IS for voting??

...by the way WTF is "Quick Heal Total Security 2009"  ??? :)

Quick heal is another company to produce both IS and AV. It is a company based in India, but from what I have read on it; It seems like a good program with lots of features. It also past many tests including Virus bulletin's VB100

That's why we are here, to find out which one is the best many different websites and magazines recommend using different ones. I personally am using Comodo Internet Security 3.11 which has been working well for me and best of all its free.

Tried CA 2010 security suite ( provided by some internet providers ) and found that it required lots of processor time, and was difficult to setup and maintain.   Like Mcafee 8.7I for virus , and their Desktop Firewall . Of course I use a hardware incoming firewall as well ???

KIS is the best security suite on market. It performs very well on every test. This is a recent one :

a self-protection test.

In this current security environment, some of the important features to consider are bad site lists, the heuristics and even threat protection from potentially emerging MalWare.

This last point is that some companies don't necessarily wait for full details on a potential threat and can detect risky files based on other users experiences.  This can lead to false positives but is a further way of keeping safe from emerging malware which is a real problem these days.

I prefer integrated software since it should play well with other features.  Most anti-malware companies provide such software such as BitDefender, PCTools and others.

Comodo also have integrated their great firewall with their anti-malware suite which performs frequent updates as well.

Don't underestimate Microsoft's Security Essentials. It has a well regarded signature database with low resource usage.

Just a personal opinion, of course. I use Avast, me too I have Super Antispyware and Malwarebytes. Recently I changed my Comodo firewall it looks very good and seems to start faster. All are free for personal use and I have not had problems with trojans, hackers, etc. I also use Windows Defender from Microsoft. Is the use of two anti-spy products but never use more than one A / V, as it can cause conflicts. You should run A / V and anti spy weekly.

SPYWARE QUESTION WHEN USING MCAFEE SUITE ..>When you use Mcafee VirusScan Enterprise V8.7 , is it really necessary to also install an additional spyware program like spysweeper as well. Mcafee's spec. sheet indicates it also handles "spyware". Thanks guys ???

I have bad experience with software internet security suite; however, after a bit research I decided to opt for security appliance from WatchGuard Technologies for internet security solutions. Since last 8 months I am using it and haven’t faced any security issue, and if asked personally I will say it is one of the best security suites I have ever used.

"The Best Security Suite ?"

IMO The best sec suite is an informed user/admin who develops and maintains good safe practices. It doesn't matter what tools you have on board if you don't know how, when, where, & why.

vote for Kaspersky, because it's the only paid security suite that I ever buy for my home PC (laptop) .... at least for one year  ;D

I also have to update Windows and all other software on it regularly

And conclution of this vote is that ther have been more discussion of this then have voted.
@ today 33 vots and about 40 discussion post's.

So who have the best suite is to be discussed not voted.  ;D

My opinion is that all large wellknown manufactures have more and less good protection. The differnence is normaly in tests depending of the time of a lifecycle of a suite and taste of the user. You probebly don't wan't to change a suite under the time you have a ongoing subscription and if you are happy with the suit you probebly wan't to change eather.

So this is more an less a discussion relevant to this who is unhappy with ther chois for some reason or use a freeware or non protection.

What I know all the large toolkit have ther pros and cons so it is like to by a car you need to find that one that is suited for you or if you are paranoide find several to use togheter.  ;)

Normaly I use a combination. I use my routers Firewall and Windows built in Firewall in the computer. Then McAfee VirusScan 8.8 with some adjusted settings i the onacces scan (no read scan on trusted and normal files just write protection) this to improve the performence of the computers. Then I use also the Spybot - Search & Destroy to protect with ther immunize and regular scanning with it.
Some times I also use the VirusScan to scan the system if I got something downloaded that was not protected earier but have been updated in the defenition.
Then I also have defention updated normaly every 6 houer.
Imprtent also to learn what task that is normaly running in the system so it is easier to find if somthing new have started that should not be ther (but this is just for freek that want to know everything what thay do in the system and way).
Then the most importent update the system with the security patches as fast I feel that is stabile.

After this I use common sense what I download or ware I surf on the web and what I download and dont puch OK on every popups that I see.
If I see something suspisius in the system or ther behaver start a scan with the tools and see what it find. If that don't get rid of it then ther can bee a good idea to scan the system with a remot system or by shutingdown the system and temporary conect the systemdisk to a other system and scan the disk from that boot. A other way is to allready have prepair a boot device like a CD or USB to coldboot the system on and scan the systemdisk from that one and try to cleen it.

This methode is applicable on more and less all security sute and make in my veiw for me a good protection. The most importent is to learn a user to not puch OK on everything thay see.  >:D

But then Im a little bit paranoide also and dont wan't to do extra work and clean a network of computers from Virus.  ;D

Help protect your PC with Microsoft Security Essentials

Microsoft Security Essentials is a new, free consumer anti-malware solution and spyware protection for your computer. It helps protect against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. The tool offers free spyware protection, and it's available as a no-cost download for Windows XP SP2 and higher, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.

Why should I download Microsoft Security Essentials?

•Comprehensive protection—Microsoft Security Essentials helps defend your computer against viruses, worms, Trojans, and other malicious software and provides you with free spyware protection.

•Easy to get, easy to use—Because Microsoft Security Essentials is available at no cost, there's no registration process that requires billing or personal information collection. It installs after a quick download and Genuine Windows validation and then stays automatically up-to-date with the latest spyware protection technology and signature updates.

•Quiet Protection—Microsoft Security Essentials doesn't get in your way. It runs quietly in the background and schedules a scan when your computer is most likely idle. You only see alerts when you need to take action.
