MS Project 2010
« on: 19. February 2016., 17:10:32 »
MS Project 2010, we are actively used "local" graphics that lead users. These charts usually lie in the My Documents users (a network folder). Some graphs are in SharePoint catalog, but also in the MPP-files.

For some time now, the local graphics were used more actively. Moreover, the problems began. Very often, normally saved and closed MPP-file is not re-opened. Those. People worked night, save the file; Project closed and turned off the computer. On the morning of the file does not open. We reach a file from the backup of the night - not open. It turns out that the file is damaged when you save and close.

"Broken" file when opening produces this message:
An unexpected error occurred while opening the file. The file may be corrupted. Use the backup file.

Is there any recovery methods?

Hmmm... Project 2010. ::)

Do you have & which Service Pack installed?
This is common error for versions without SP2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2687457

Also, We could try this... Go to the Microsoft Project MVP website at: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

...and take a look at FAQ 43. - "Handling project file corruption and/or bloat"

Let us know did you resolve issue after these steps. ;)

Another variant is only suitable for severe mpp corruption and then it will help you https://www.openfiletool.com/mppopen.html MPP Open File Tool

Save the file in the Microsoft Project Database format:
1. Open your problem file (it may help to turn off automatic calculation if the file is reluctant to open).
2. Select File/Save As...
3. Save as type: Project Database (*.mpd) then click Save.
4. Close the file.
5. Re-open it from the .mpd file.
6. Select File/Save As... and save it as an .mpp file again.
