From the issue description that you have given, it seems that there are some serious system file corruption on the computer. Thus, the update issue that you are facing could be due to these important system file corruption on the computer. Let’s first proceed with the SFC Scan to check for the corrupted system files on the computer. Please follow the first method.

Method 1: Run an SFC Scan

The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

a)       Press “Windows Logo” + “X” keys on the keyboard and select “Command Prompt (Admin)” from that menu.
b)       On the command prompt window, type the following command, and then press “Enter”

sfc /scannow

c)       Follow the on-screen instructions and complete the scan.

Important: It may ask for windows installation DVD to fix and to enable SFC to make more than minor repairs. Some files saved on your computer might get deleted when fixing corrupted files.

If the SFC Scan fails to fix this issue, then you may follow the next method to use the Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) to fix the system file corruption and the Windows Update issue.

Method 2: Use Deployment Image Servicing and Management to fix the System File Corruption and Windows Update Errors

To run the DISM Tool, you may follow these steps:

a)       Press “Windows Logo” + “X” keys on the keyboard and select “Command Prompt (Admin)” from that menu.
b)       On the Command Prompt window, type the following commands, and then press “Enter” after each command.

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

c)       After completing the process, type “Exit” and press “Enter” on the Command Prompt window to close it.
d)       Now, try hiding the unwanted updates and check if that helps. You may also run the Windows Updates again and check if there are any pending updates for Windows. If available, you may also try installing them.
