Why? I knew their program first and it allows for easy excluding of files / folders. And even better: it comes with build-in filters you can easily use to greatly reduce the backup archive size... Only the exclusion of *.log files is something I do not like and manually remove again.
BUT... Paragon lacks in one important aspect. Something Acronis does better! Or, more precise: something Paragon completely misses :( Disk faults!
Paragon does not offer a detailed log to view while backing up. Combine this with the fact it does not have build-in support for bad hdd blocks / weak sectors... And you will end up with a backup that just stalls. And you wait, because you never know...
Sigh.
Acronis has detailed log files (a little hidden, but still). Also it has EXPERT options on how to handle bad blocks and weak disk sectors! Incremental backup etc are no problem (tested: Backup & Recovery 11.5 Workstation)
But it lacks a convenient way to exclude files or folders. You will have to manually TYPE the damn locations! Also, Acronis has NO build in browser. The best you get is a Vault Browser, which you can abuse to find exact folder locations. Write down the folders to exclude (watch drive assignment like C: or D: ...!) on paper and retype them when you are in the wizard, creating the backup... Sigh.
So for ease of use, use Paragon. For die-hard results, use Acronis...
Karma! Sort off ;p
