There's an English web portal too! I THOUGHT I had my 10TB... NOW I have  ;)

10 TB Cloud Storage - Tencent Weiyun, now in english

You may have heard about the amazing 10tb cloud storage drive Weiyun earlier this month, but were deterred by the fact that it is in chinese?

Well, never fear: I have partially translated the windows sync application, and there is an english version of the web interface. You can practically pretend it’s actually in english!

To get all set with Tencent Weiyun:

Sign up for a QQ international account at http://www.imqq.com/. You do not need to install QQ to do this!

Download and install the version of weiyun for your Windows: http://www.weiyun.com/download.html?WYTAG=weiyun.portal.index

Download my translation string files from http://url.cn/P74OO0, and replace the strings files with those included. (In my install, it was at C:\Program Files (x86)\Tencent\Weiyun\I18N\2052\)

Install the android or ios app to unlock the full 10tb

If you so choose, go to the web interface to start uploading.

To upload files larger than 2gb, install the browser plugin by clicking the blue link in the upper left.

From there, set up your File, photo, and device sync settings in the desktop app, and you will be good to go!

Afterwards, access your files conveniently from anywhere at http://www.weiyun.com/disk/index-en.html

A few pitfalls, if you have multiple computers, the default behavior is to sync all files both ways!

Change this in the first setting under advanced in in the second settings tab.

One thing that happened to me - there appears to be a soft directory limit, though my files for pre-existing folders are still going up. I am looking into what this number is and if there is a way around it, If you have any info please message me on reddit http://www.reddit.com/user/Candar

Additionally, I couldn’t find all of the application strings. I tried decompiling the exe, but they did not appear to be in there.
If you are in the mood to do some file snooping, please let me know if you find the location of the other strings. Again, hit up the reddit thread or me directly if you have any insight! http://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/1mbyqy/translated_english_tencent_weiyun_desktop/cc7qepd

Maybe you can ask via e-mail for an english localization of the service, saying that it will do better for their bussiness... just sayin'

They have over a billion Chinese over there... Few more English speaking people won't matter? ;p

When I was in China for about 10 years ago the Chinese apologise that we need to visit "this small village" with just one million inhabitant. ;)

...

And I'm happy to share my porn with them :>

...

I respect you too much, to ask for DDL (direct download link).  ;)

LOL - no worries - I'm waaaay to low on upload bandwidth to get anywhere near 1TB - let alone 10 ;p

BUT I went to a Chinese restaurant, popular by youngsters out of China and asked if "anyone could read that Chinese". They could :)

Even further: it turned out to be a very well known, very popular social medium in China. I hope the company is Hong Kong based - it should matter? At least it's trusted by Western Chinese kids well enough to keep using, even when abroad.

And at the moment, for my Internet Practices, Chinese government is way more on my side than US government is (for they are ran by movie makers - the movie industry took away my freedoms on the net).

So I think it's a great way to store my online Nandroid backup to an actual Online cloud storage...

Only thing left: ask another Chinese dude to lunch, and let them explain HOW to use this program. Chinese is hard and all picture-like. Nothing to copy paste and translate :(

Karma!

I would thing more then 10 times before I put my cloud storage In China. Do you really know what they do with your backup and the information they got in it?

Im not a big fun of Cloud storage because you don't know ware the data is stored. Every company with storage in a country need to follow that country's law. And if you don't know witch country it is you don't know what law they are following. Normally they want to have it in a low cost country to earn as match as possible and the most of the low cost country's have not secure judiciary and law according to western views. And even the western country's have not so liberal views on data as they should have. Look just what Snowden discover and released information about.

So I should think at least 10 times before I used this free cloud services and what I put up in them. For sour not my phone backup with all my contacts and information where I have been and login to different thing like Facebook.
