The five patches are scheduled for release on September 8, 2009.
All five bulletins have been rated as "Critical", Microsoft's highest rating for vulnerabilities. These critical updates are to prevent exploitation of Windows operating system and prevent holes used by Internet worms to attack users without user interaction. These updates only affect Microsoft Windows operating systems and not any other software.
The following Windows operating systems are affected:
* Windows 2000 Service Pack 4
* Windows XP Service Pack 2 & 3 *
* Windows Vista Service Pack 1 & 2 *
* Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 & Itanium-based Systems *
* Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 & Itanium-based Systems *
* Both 32bit and 64bit architecture
No updates have yet been announced of Microsoft's new Windows 7 operating system, scheduled to release in retail stores on October 22, 2009.
Microsoft will also update the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool for September. Some of these updates require a restart of your computer.
