Last night I watched one TV Show related to current afera with Volkswagen cars and later Googled for more information about this case... during search I found some very informative articles, especially this one on BBC:

Did you know that you can cheat on "Smog test for cars" and pass it even without complicated software systems like VW did ?? No ?! Neither did I... but you can learn it on mentioned site:
1. Don’t change the fuel type
2. Use a fuel cleaner
3. Drive more
4. Change the oil

Volkswagen says 11 million vehicles worldwide are involved in the scandal that has erupted over its rigging of US car emissions tests.
It said it was setting aside €6.5bn (£4.7bn) to cover costs of the scandal.
