Hi Maanas,

the avp.exe process is associated with the Kaspersky Internet Security program. The application error people get from Kaspersky security software programs is usually because your Kaspersky security system is outdated or your subscription has expired.

To manually repair the error, perform the following steps:

1. Click Start and then click Search.

2. Click All files and folders.

3. Type updcfg.xml in the All or part of the file name box, select Local Hard Drives in the Look in list, and then click Search.

4. In the right-pane, right-click updcfg.xml and click Delete.

Note: The default location of this file is: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Kaspersky Lab\AVP6\Data\updcfg.xml.

The true avp.exe is a safe process and is an integral part of Kaspersky Internet Security program. However, another process with the same name as avp.exe is also a registered trojan that allows attackers to remotely access the infected computer and steal personal and confidential information.

So my advice is to make a double check. ;)

Please follow next instructions and provide us (all) results ASAP
:

1. Scan your PC with BitDefender or Panda Online AntiVirus Scan: http://scforum.info/index.php/topic,734.0.html

2. Download & run HijackThis: http://scforum.info/index.php/topic,785.0.html

3. Provide us logs from HijackThis & AntiVirus Online Scan

I'll wait your reply (with logs).

Regards,

Samker
