A suspected bank robber toting an AK47 assault rifle was arrested Wednesday as he fled in a cab.
Tucson police officers and sheriff's deputies responded to a 4 p.m. call about a robbery at the M & I Bank, 4380 N. Campbell Ave. After learning the suspect had fled the scene in a cab, officers stopped the vehicle in the 4400 block of East Broadway.
Christopher Fern, 45, was arrested. Fern was carrying "multiple guns and a large amount of cash," according to Deputy Dawn Barkman, spokeswoman for the Pima County Sheriff's Department. The cab driver was not involved in the robbery.
Fern was booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Center on suspicion armed robbery aggravated assault and kidnapping
