DVDFab today released a new version of its Media Player that will support playback and navigation of 4K / Ultra HD Blu-ray folders. This means the recently released pirated Ultra HD Blu-ray version of the Smurfs 2 can be played back using the software.
The Chinese company stresses that it won’t break its promise of not cracking AACS 2.0, DVDFab Media Player will only support playback of already cracked Ultra HD Blu-ray content.
In order to playback Ultra HD Blu-ray content that is already copy protection free a GPU is required that has hardware support for 4K / Ultra HD Blu-ray decoding. The same applies to playback of unprotected H.265 (HEVC) content.
DVDFab reports that Nvidia’s Maxwell GM206 series including GeForce GTX 750 SE, GTX 950, GTX 960 and above and all the Pascal series are known to support hardware 4K /Ultra HD decoding. Also AMD’s GCN 4th generation Polaris Discrete GPU RX 480 / RX 470 / RX 460 and above are on the list and from Intel, the company’s 5th generation Intel Core Processors with HD graphics 5500, HD graphics 6000, Iris graphics 6100 and above are supported.
