Your favourite screensavers
« on: 15. April 2012., 18:00:45 »
Hello, inspired by http://www.7tutorials.com/top-7-screen-savers-windows-7, I thought to take their and mine best-of's and share it here.

Very curious if you have others - if so, post!

* AJScreensavers http://beeks.eu/#Download
Clocks - but NICE!
Support for multi-monitor is very well!

* For those of you who are fans of Star Trek and the old Enterprise starship, this might be the right screen saver for you: mewho.com's System47 screen saver.
Mac/Win: http://www.mewho.com/system47/download1.htm
Support for multi-monitor is very well!

* If you are a male teenager, this one might be fun? It turns your desktop into a fiery inferno. More or less :)
http://download.cnet.com/Free-Fire-screen%20saver/3000-2257_4-10627791.html?tag=mncol

* Not really my cup of tea, but you might like it - it's one of screensaver.com's best ; )
Falling leaves: http://www.screensaver.com/download/Screensavers/3D-Falling-Leaves-Screensaver

* More like these ones of screensaver.com? Sure!
Fantastic Ocean 3D Screensaver (http://download.cnet.com/Fantastic-Ocean-3D-Screensaver/3000-2257_4-95480.html).
Free version shows short reminder every minute. It disappears quickly enough though.

Also see: Completely Free Flight over Sea Screensaver (http://www.rixane.com/flight-over-sea/flight-over-sea.html)

* One I install often for friends with older computers... Beach Tranquility.
Tiles of color cascade down your screen forming beach images. Available at http://www.appleblossomart.com - contains many more simple quality screensavers.

* http://blog.pixelbreaker.com/polarclock
This screen saver shows the month, day, day of the week, hour, minute and second on six bars that gradually concentrically circle the screen as time passes. It’s an interesting display.

* http://electricsheep.org/download, screen saver is named for Philip K. Dick’s novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? The screen saver functions by having all of it’s animations created by the sleeping processors of actual users’ computers. These images, referred to as “sheep," are downloaded through a working Internet connection into your computer. While the screen saver runs, you are able to vote on the “sheep" presented to you, which influences the central database’s choices on which kinds of “sheep" are most preferred by users. Several of the “sheep" can be quite mesmerizing and even artistic.
Works very well with multi-monitor.

* http://www.blinkxbeat.com/
Shows top-funny / interesting short videoclips from the net. From blowing dolphins (yes:>) to horses jumping rope - it will all pass by.
Sadly, it ignores any second monitor. This could also be a 'feature', if your second screen is used for watching video's (offline/online). You can then set the screensaver activation period rather short, and still keep watching your video full-screen on the second monitor. Then, you suddenly have some nice (soundless!) distractions...

* Really Slick Screensavers (http://www.reallyslick.com/screensavers.html)
This one I'm installing for years, and it still is enough to get many computers to completely crumble... It's OpenGL based. I like the fireworks for New Years times, and during the year I just love Helios: throw together some attraction/repulsion particle effects and some smooth implicit surfaces and this is what you get. Support for multi-monitor is limited: it considers both screens to be one. So it centers the graphics in the middle: there where your screens are split :/
Still, a REAL CLASSIC even in 2013!

* Dream Aquarium (http://www.dreamaquarium.com/download.html)
The most beautiful screensaver for years sadly enough is not free (but... Torrents available. Check Bit Che ;)
Free to try (Limited number of species, informational pop-ups, doesn't allow changes to be saved), download here: http://download.cnet.com/Dream-Aquarium-Screensaver/3000-2257_4-10423989.html#ixzz1s8DdgZUL

* http://www.3d-screensaver-jam.com/abstractions-screensaver.html
Free Abstractions Screensaver - is as it sounds : )

* For security... Avast and Windows Defender have screensaver-scans... Microsoft's add-on, from deviantArt, here: http://jwils876.deviantart.com/art/Security-Screensaver-2-0-162168767. Avast can be downloaded at avast.com.

Not working on my Windows 7 system - does it work for you?:
- http://flurry-screensaver.en.softonic.com/ (Apple's screensaver - figures it doesn't work;p)
- http://www.sdsoftware.org/software/usefulsaver (information about your computer including CPU usage and how much of your memory is being used)

And as always... Turn the screensaver sounds completely OFF (or mute it to an absolute minimum). Or else, it will drive you crazy mad ;p

Peace!

Devvie
