I'm unfamiliar with which coins use SHA-256d. My understanding is that Bitcoin, PPCoin, Terracoin, Freicoin, Bytecoin, Namecoin, IXcoin, and Devcoin all use SHA-256. I'm sure there are some others that I'm not aware of as well.
Is there an example of an SHA-256d coin?

Couldn ASIC devices (Avalon, BFL, etc) that are used to mine Bitcoins be used to mine other SHA256 based coins? Could you just use a BFL Single and have Cgminer point at a PPcoin pool to start mining away?

Like wise, could FPGAs used to mine Litecoin be used for other Scrypt coins?

POST EDIT: yes it can be done! My question if I can mine other currencies with my 55GH butterflylabs ASIC miner, is answered! Found the confirmation here: www.reddit.com/r/peercoin/comments/1rjck5/best_way_to_mine_peercoin/ - sure check it out! Just point your miner to a new pool and done. Just as it should and I hoped. Hashing is hashing ;p

Oh, so ASIC hardware could really be recycled. What I love about ASIC is that it work just as well on Peercoin as they do Bitcoin.
