www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/1jv5s9/what_is_the_exact_difference_between_coins_that/I'm unfamiliar with which coins use SHA-256d. My understanding is that Bitcoin, PPCoin, Terracoin, Freicoin, Bytecoin, Namecoin, IXcoin, and Devcoin all use SHA-256. I'm sure there are some others that I'm not aware of as well.
Is there an example of an SHA-256d coin?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=263054.0Can you use Bitcoin ASIC hardware to mine SHA256 alt-coins? Namecoin, Terracoin, PPcoin, and a few others use SHA-256. Couldn ASIC devices (Avalon, BFL, etc) that are used to mine Bitcoins be used to mine other SHA256 based coins? Could you just use a BFL Single and have Cgminer point at a PPcoin pool to start mining away?
Like wise, could FPGAs used to mine Litecoin be used for other Scrypt coins?
And to see which currencies are SHA-256d or scrypt-only, see this:
