The best free package: Malwarebytes Free + MSE (or Avira Free) + AdwCleaner
The best commercials for me are Kaspersky, BitDefender and ESET NOD. I hate Symantec and AVG products ). 2014 version of BitDefender is realy great, some indpendent antivirus rankings (http://privacy-pc.com/news/best-security-software-2014.html) proved it

Don't you get TIRED of a PC halting to a crawl because your fav AVs are running there obliged scans again? And how about MSE slowing down the bootprocess, sometimes for minutes...?

IN the old days, yes, most certainly. Nowadays, not so much. And despite its excellent scanning engine, it sometimes misses a virus with BIG consequences. Once a virus is able to bypass Kaspersky, you are really really screwed. I trust Avast way better to protect me

Yes, I tested this AV few times during a past years and it look quite good but I'm not impressed... however, as you see, since 2007. it doesn't have even single Vote in our Poll.

As I know, Trend Micro is one of the largest security companies in the world, ranking in the top 3 in web, messaging, and endpoint security... but mostly in corporate business.
