OUT OF DATE WARNING.
« on: 20. March 2015., 04:23:19 »
Hello,

I Use XP PRO SP3 And MCAFEE Virusscan Enterprise 8.8.

After SP2, XP Included A New Feature Called Security Center ( SC ).

If I Fail To Update My AV, After 6 Days The ( SC ) Warns Me My AV Is Out Of Date.

Do You Know Who Issues This Warning ?

Is It The OS Or The AV Itself ?

Is It Possible To Change The 6 Days To 8 Days ?

Thank You.

As far as I know, it should be the OS itself issuing the warning.
Moving the warning threshold should involve some registry wizardy, sadly I don't know where to look.

Re: how to change the way Security Center alerts me in Windows

J. have right about this...

Quote
"Security Center is a Control Panel applet that Microsoft introduced in XP SP2 that provides a central configuration and management interface for client-side security services. Security Center continuously monitors the status of client-side security services. In XP SP2, Security Center monitors Windows Firewall, virus protection, and Automatic Updates settings. Vista’s Security Center also monitors Windows Defender, Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) security, and User Account Control (UAC) settings.

Behind Security Center is an engine that continuously monitors the configuration status of these security services and informs users of their status. Each service’s status is checked against the preferred configuration settings that are specified in the Security Center configuration dialog box."

I don't know how to change "period"... but, I turned off my on this way:

1. Open the Control Panel
2. Double-click on the Security Center icon security center icon
3. Click on the option "Change the way Security Center alerts me"

4. Uncheck the alert settings boxes you wish and click Ok

The AV Warning Is Useful.

Whenever I Am Warned, I Take The Opportunity To Update It And All My 4 Browsers In Just 1 Go.

I Just Wish The Number Of Days Could Be 8 Instead Of 6.

---

I Just Unchecked The M$ Updates A Long Time Ago.

In The SUMMER Of 2009, M$ Issued Some Update(s) That Converted My Machine Into A Snail.

No More Newer M$ Updates Since Then - After APRIL 2014 That Problem Does Not Even Exist Anymore.

Thank You.

Whatever The Software, Whenever Possible, I Do Not Want Any Automatic Downloads Or Updates, Period.

I UnCheck Them All With A Vengeance - Stupid JAVA Always Stabs Me In The Back, Though.

I Do Not Have Any State Of The Art PC Or Internet Connection, So Wasting CPU Cycles When I Am Focused Doing Something Else Is A Complete NONO, In My Book.

I Do All My Downloads And Updates Manually, On A Weekly Basis.

Thank You.
