FREE AV REPLACEMENT.
« on: 15. May 2015., 04:48:39 »
Hello,

I Have Been Using MCAFEE VIRUSSCAN ENTERPRISE 8.8 RP0 In The Last 3 Years, Or So.

I Religiously Apply The Security Updates ( SU ) Every Week.

Until A Few Days Ago, I Did Not Have Any Major Problems With It.

Since Then, The Main EXE File Started To Eat So Many CPU Cycles ( CC ) That My PC Sometimes Is Useless For Even Any Minor Work.

I UnInstalled It And Installed It Again - Same Problem.

After UnInstalling It, The PC Seems OK, Now, In Terms Of Speed.

Questions:

A - Did MCAFEE Recently And Suddenly Increase The Bloat Of Their ( SU ) ?

B - Is There Any Other Free AV Package That Is Good Enough And Does Not Eat Too Many ( CC ) ?

Thank You.

I have been using Avira-Antiver personal which is a free antivirus ... I have been using this program for about 15 years with no problems ... it automatically updates every day... of course they have a pay version also if you would like it ... I have never been bugged to upgrade to the paid version ...

Avast is competitive in terms of effectiveness to McAfee, I prefer McAfee though.
DO you have your engine updated as well? You migth try applying a SuperDAT. My VSE is running just fine

Thank You For Your Tips, Guys.

Yes, I Applied The Super Dude, Also - Twice.

I Am Sorry For Badmouthing MCAFEE, The Problem Goes Well Beyond The AV Package.

I Was So Desperate, That I Finally Moved My Drives To A *New* PC I Had In Reserve, Just In Case.

This *New* PC Is A Lot Faster Than The *Old* One - So Far So Good.

Thank You, Again.

Oh yeah,

McAfee is very heavy program and it eat your computer power so much! Even you've now new faster computer McAfee still eat the bear part of your computer's power! Try something lighter AV system like as avast or avg.  ::)

Well, Things Seem Pretty Cool, Right Now.

So Much So, That I Even Upgraded MCAFEE To Version RP4 - Something I Have Not Done Before, Because It Was Too Slow For My *Old* PC.

In A Week Or So, I Will Know If One More Of My Usual Couple Yearly Nightmares Is Gone For A While.

Thank You, All.

Pal, my recommendation is to check sticked Topics in SCforum's AV area: http://scforum.info/index.php?board=10.0

There you will find main forum Topics (8 years old) for Avast, AVG, Panda, Avira... with useful information, experiences and advises from SCF's members.

Also, these two topics might be of help (both with Voting polls):

"The Best AntiVirus": http://scforum.info/index.php/topic,100.0.html

"The Best Security Suite": http://scforum.info/index.php/topic,3155.0.html

cya later,

Lots Of Free Choices.

I Hope I Will Not Need Them Ever, But You Never Know.

Thank You, All, Again.
