I personally consider Avast Internet Security is not bad and it does well in protecting you pc from infection and the scanning speed is also fast.

Tried CA 2010 security suite ( provided by some internet providers ) and found that it required lots of processor time, and was difficult to setup and maintain.   Like Mcafee 8.7I for virus , and their Desktop Firewall . Of course I use a hardware incoming firewall as well ???

KIS is the best security suite on market. It performs very well on every test. This is a recent one :

a self-protection test.

In this current security environment, some of the important features to consider are bad site lists, the heuristics and even threat protection from potentially emerging MalWare.

This last point is that some companies don't necessarily wait for full details on a potential threat and can detect risky files based on other users experiences.  This can lead to false positives but is a further way of keeping safe from emerging malware which is a real problem these days.

I prefer integrated software since it should play well with other features.  Most anti-malware companies provide such software such as BitDefender, PCTools and others.

Comodo also have integrated their great firewall with their anti-malware suite which performs frequent updates as well.

Don't underestimate Microsoft's Security Essentials. It has a well regarded signature database with low resource usage.
Think before you think you'll do something.
