Windows Vista Exhibitionism!
« on: 15. August 2007., 22:34:46 »
Microsoft sending Windows Vista back to school serves no other purpose than to further advertise the operating system and adjacent hardware and devices designed to integrate with the platform. Microsoft pulled a similar stunt in the second part of July by applauding a collection of Windows Vista laptops, real epitomes of
"form, function and self-expression", but it looks like  what appeared to be an isolated, marketing effort from
the Redmond company is threatening to turn into a tradition. Still, it is refreshing to say the least that while the Windows community is effervescent about Windows XP Service Pack 3 and Windows Vista Service Pack 1, Microsoft is committed and focused on selling Vista and the best picture frame to go with the operating system. It's all part of a very subtle Microsoft campaign dubbed Back to School to get students to adopt the platform, and to drop some cash on various accessories.

Because Microsoft is not just pushing Vista, it's also helping sell products from Sony, HP, Dell, Logitech, Canon, Nikon, D-Link and even some of its own hardware such as Microsoft Wireless Entertainment Desktop 7000 Mouse & Keyboard. "To make for a smooth transition between work and play, this ultra-thin entertainment desktop set includes a rechargeable mouse and delivers on or off desk outstanding performance from up to 30 feet away. Perfect for watching movies and connecting with Windows Media Center, now students can control their PC from anywhere in the room," reads Microsoft's description of the Wireless Entertainment Desktop 7000 Mouse & Keyboard. And tucked away in a corner, the Office Home and Student 2007 is also advertised along with Vista.

But no, this is not the Redmond company indicating signs of desperation. Microsoft shipped 60 million Vista licenses in the first six months of the operating system's availability on the market. There is little reason for desperation. "Technology can help students of all educational levels feel more empowered and increase their success in the learning process. Using Windows Vista in conjunction with the latest laptops, desktops, printers and cameras can expand the horizon of possibilities even further," Microsoft revealed. Of course, the company just wants to help. No desperation here...
