Topic: When flashing new (stock) firmware with Odin, what files will remove everything?

Question,

For some time I wondering about this... Sometimes when I flash firmware with Odin's PDA function, I end up with a clean, factory resetted phone.

But at other times, flashing other firmwares with Odin PDA will keep all your home screens and apps, settings (most of them anyway), backgrounds, folders and icon layouts...

Today i noticed this behaviour again

Open Odin, connect your phone (while in download mode) and do the following:
1-Click on “Bootloader” and select BL_I9300XXUGMK6_2168382_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5.
2-Click on “PDA” and select AP_I9300XXUGMK6_2168382_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5.
3-Click on “PHONE” and select MODEM_I9300XXUGMK6_REV02_REV04_CL1413323.tar.md5.
4-Click on “CSC” and select CSC_OXA_I9300OXAGMK6_2168382_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5.

I already tested with AP-file only (all well). I also tested with BL, AP & CSC files but that still nuked all my apps. So it's not the MODEM (or the AP) files...

So either Bootloader's BL-file OR CSC-file destroys all data... (?)

Who knows what's going on here? Which of these two files is so "dangerous"?

All files were extracted from I9300XXUGMK6_I9300OXAGMK6_OXA.zip .

Last night, in my mind, I came to the same conclusion. Testing as we speak :>

Reason is that resetting CSC code on your phone will reset your phone too! And that is (probably) what happens here too...

I think we've solved it 

I restored ONLY Bootloader, PDA & Phone files.

After flashing these, my phone rebooted to recovery - but NOT my new clockworkmod recovery. Default stock recovery will be installed with these files.

I mention this, because it seems my CSC code became a multi-CSC code and was set back to KOR (original code when I bought it). No idea what multi-CSC does in (stock) recovery...

But the reboot shows all my apps being upgraded. Yesterday, this would happen after every reboot (but only once for ALL apps). I'm curious if today is any better. End results with "just" PDA file were worse than my old stock rom It used approx. 50MB of RAM memory more. So much memory is used that all auto started apps would first start and then one by one would start closing again. While everything gets closed, some apps try to start again.
This spins out of control really fast until the phone will reboot :s

Yes, for this thread we were successful

And the problems I mentioned before were caused by wrong rooting process.... I updated my articles at scforum accordingly.

You should make sure that the bootloader and Phone (Cellular & GPS radio) are compatible with the PDA (kernel & Android) when doing a PDA-only flash :p
And it's normal that it states that apps are being updated, what it is really doing is rebuilding the dalvik cache for all apps (including system ones)

Yeah, but it shouldn't be doing that EVERY time I start the phone ;p

So, "only" PDA file in this scenario must be bound to cause problems? Also I learned to be careful when it comes to rooting; it might actually cause problems :s

Bad flash always cause trouble..
Uhm, when I have that message every time I start the phone, It's usually because in the rebuild process I ran out of internal storage space :p (Galaxy Ace here..)
Only PDA can cause trouble if you pair it with incompatible bootloader and/or radio (worst case scenario, you end up with a nice and expensive brick)
I usually root with Chainfire's autoroot zip when I'm on stock rom (from stock recovery :p)

Well, regarding the original question, the wipe must be performed by one of the update scripts, or if the user fs gets written
