Hello John,  as we know that SMART Hard Disk Error 301 is an unpredicted error message that indicates hard drive failure or severe drive corruption. This error is related to HP laptops, which comes with HP SMART check embedded in the firmware.

The most common reasons behind SMART hard disk error 301 are outdated or misconfigured BIOS, virus issues, application or driver conflict, power surge, physical damage and so on.
Here I will suggest most common solution using change boot priority order, reset boot order and so on. :)
