'World's biggest hacker' is a Londoner
« on: 08. June 2007., 20:22:15 »
THE TALE OF the 'world's biggest hacker' makes the front page of London's Evening Standard today in a rare case of a technology story hitting the mainstream headlines.
We're not sure how big the hacker actually is, as the Standard and other sources don't mention the bloke's weight. He must be pretty big, though.

It seems Wood Green resident Gary McKinnon is accused of tapping into a host of sensitive US government and military installations as well as NASA. He was up before the beak at London's ageing Bow Street Magistrates Court today, at the beginning of a process that may see him extradited to the US.

McKinnon, 39, is alleged to have hacked his way into 53 computer systems in the US between four and five years ago. The authorities say no sensitve military data was compromised but claim they spent a million dollars clearing up in his wake.

It appears McKinnon was convinced authorities in the US were covering up any details they may have on aliens visting earth. A 'friend' told the Standard: "He's been interested in UFOs for some time and believes the Americans are holding back information - although he didn't find any proof."

The posecution alleges McKinnon was responsible for "the biggest hack of military computers ever".

He faces a possible five years in nick.
